Telehealth Therapy Anywhere in Virginia
If you are physically in Virginia, we can work together. Most of my patients have never sat in my office, and the work is not a reduced version of the in person work.
What a Video Session Is Like for Trauma Work Specifically
This is the question I get asked most, so I will answer it properly. Brainspotting relies on where your eyes rest and on my attention staying with you while something moves. A screen does not interfere with either. I can see your face closely, often more closely than I would across a room, and I am watching the same things I would watch in person: your breathing, your hands, the moment your gaze changes.
Internal Family Systems is largely internal by definition. You are turning toward parts of yourself while I keep the process steady. Distance is irrelevant to that.
Somatic work is the one people assume cannot travel. It can. I am not touching you in either format. I am asking what you notice, where you notice it, and what happens next, and you are the one making contact with your own body.
There is one real advantage. Your nervous system is at home. For a woman whose difficult experience happened in an unfamiliar clinical building, being in her own house while approaching it can be the difference between getting near the thing and not.
Who Telehealth Suits
Women who cannot reliably leave the house, whether because of a baby, a job, distance or a body still recovering. Women in parts of the state where nobody nearby does this specific work. Women who want privacy and would rather not be seen going into a building. Women who need early morning or late evening hours.
Doing It Around a Baby
Realistically. A sleeping baby in the room is fine. An awake baby on your lap is workable for parts of a session and not for the deepest ten minutes, and I would rather plan around that than pretend otherwise. Feeding during a session is fine. If you need to stop, we stop, and nothing is lost.
Many patients take the session from a parked car, which is often the most private space available in a house with other people in it. Headphones help more than anything else.
The One Hard Rule
You must be physically located in Virginia during the session, because I am licensed in Virginia only. Not traveling, not visiting family elsewhere, not at a desk over a state line. If you are away, we reschedule.
If you are in immediate danger, call or text 988.
Setting It Up at Your End
You will get a link. There is nothing to install and nothing to configure beyond allowing your camera and microphone. If the connection degrades we switch to audio for a moment and continue, and if it fails entirely we finish by phone rather than lose the hour.
Prop the device rather than holding it, at roughly eye height if you can. This matters more for Brainspotting than for anything else, because a moving camera makes it harder to stay with where your attention has settled.
Beginning
A free consultation call, held the same way the sessions are, which also lets you test the format before you commit to anything.
