Birth Trauma Therapy for Virginia Beach

This is the military coast, and it produces a version of birth trauma that most therapy websites never describe: a pregnancy carried alone, a delivery with an empty chair beside the bed, and a family that moves before any of it has been dealt with.

Giving Birth While He Is Deployed

You planned for it. You were realistic about it. You told everyone you would be fine, and you meant it. And then the day came and the person whose hand you were supposed to hold was on a screen, or on a delayed call, or unreachable entirely for reasons nobody could tell you about.

If the birth was straightforward, that is hard and you get through it. If it was not, something else happens. There was no second adult in the room whose only job was you. No one to ask the question you were too frightened to ask. No one to remember it afterwards. You made decisions alone, under pressure, on no sleep, and then you were the only person who knew what those hours had actually been like.

And when he came home, the moment for telling him had passed. He was meeting a baby who was already months old and adjusting to a house that had learned to run without him. Handing him the worst night of your life in that first week felt impossible, so you gave him the short version, and the short version is now the only version that exists between you.

The Guilt That Sits Underneath It

Military spouses are extremely reluctant to call any of this trauma. There is always someone with a harder tour, always a comparison that makes your own experience look like complaining. So it gets minimized, sometimes for years, and minimizing is exactly what keeps it live.

There is also anger, at the timing, at the service, sometimes at him, and that one is close to forbidden. It comes out sideways instead, usually at homecoming, when everyone expects relief and what you actually feel is a kind of furious exhaustion you cannot explain to anybody.

Moves Break the Thread

The other structural problem here is continuity. You start with someone, you get four sessions in, orders come, and you begin again with a new provider in a new place, telling the same story from the beginning. After the second or third time most women stop bothering. Starting over is its own small injury.

Two things help. The first is video, which means that as long as you are physically in Virginia we continue without interruption, whether you are in Virginia Beach, Norfolk or anywhere else in the state. The second is intensives. Four hours of concentrated work, with a ninety minute intake beforehand and a thirty minute close afterwards, is designed for exactly this situation: a window that is open now and may not be open in six months.

I am licensed in Virginia only, so if a move takes you out of the state we cannot continue, and I will say so plainly at the start rather than at the end.

How We Work

Brainspotting, Internal Family Systems and somatic work. You will not be asked to give a chronological account on day one. We work with what your body is still holding from those hours, and with the part of you that has spent a long time insisting it was not a big deal.

If You Are Pregnant Now and He Will Not Be Here

Some women reach me before rather than after, and that is a good use of this work. We can prepare: what you want to happen if the room changes, who your second adult will be if he cannot be, what you will need from the people who are there, and how you will be able to tell him afterwards in a way that does not require you to protect him from it.

That is not a guarantee about how the birth will go, because nobody can offer that. It is the difference between facing it braced and alone and facing it prepared.

Starting

A free consultation call comes first. If your window is short because of a move or a deployment cycle, say so on that call and we will build the plan around the time you actually have.
