In-Person Therapy in Prince George, Virginia

This is the one place on this website you can actually drive to. My office is in Prince George, and in person hours are available each week for patients in the Tri-Cities and the surrounding area.

Who Comes in Person

Patients from Prince George itself, from Petersburg, Colonial Heights and Hopewell, from the county roads either side of them, and from a little further out when someone decides the drive is worth it. Plenty of people who could do video choose the room instead, usually for one of two reasons: home is not private, or being physically somewhere else is what makes the hour feel like it belongs to them.

There is also a practical reason. If you have small children at home, leaving the house is sometimes the only way to have a conversation without being interrupted, and the drive back afterwards turns out to be part of the treatment.

What the Room Is Like

Quiet, warm, and set up for slow work rather than for a clinic. Soft light instead of overhead fluorescent. Comfortable seating, a blanket if you want one, water, tissues within reach and not in a way that suggests you are expected to use them. Nothing about it is designed to hurry you.

It matters more than it sounds. A lot of what we work on happened in a bright, loud, busy room full of strangers. A body that is still braced from that does not settle in a space that resembles it. So the office is deliberately the opposite.

What a First Visit Is Actually Like

Before it, we will have spoken on a free consultation call, so you are not walking in cold and I am not a stranger's name on a door.

On the day, you park outside and come in. There is no crowded waiting area and no reception desk to announce yourself at. The first session is mostly me listening. I will ask what brought you and what you want out of this, and then I will follow you rather than run a checklist. You will not be asked to narrate the birth in order, and if you start and cannot continue that is a normal outcome and not a failure of the session.

By the end we will have named what we are working on and agreed how we will work, which usually means weekly sessions or an intensive. You will know what happens next before you leave.

Intensives Happen Here

The intensive format is four hours of focused work in the office, with a ninety minute intake before and a thirty minute close after. Women drive in for it from a good distance, because a concentrated block can be easier to arrange once than an hour every week for months. The room is set up for a long day: breaks, food, somewhere to sit quietly afterwards before you get back in the car.

Practical Detail

Individual therapy is 300 dollars. Intensives are 2,500 dollars. Self pay only, with a superbill on request, and twenty four hours notice for cancellations. The consultation call before any of it is free. Full fees are listed on Rates and Insurance.

If in person is not workable in a given week, we move that session to video and keep going. I am licensed in Virginia only.

Getting Here and Getting Home

There is parking outside and you do not need to arrive early to sit in a lobby. Come at the time of your appointment.

Give yourself a little room afterwards if you can. Sessions that go somewhere often leave you slower for an hour, and driving straight into a school pickup is not ideal on those days. Plenty of patients sit in the car for ten minutes first, and that is a sensible thing to do rather than a worrying one.

Booking the First Visit

It starts with a free consultation call rather than a form and a waitlist. On that call we work out whether in person or video suits you better, and whether weekly work or an intensive fits your life.
