For Providers

When “everything is fine” but she isn’t.

Specialized trauma therapy for women navigating difficult birth experiences, postpartum distress, anxiety, and trauma.

Leah Harlan, MA, LPC | Harlan Therapy

When to Think of Harlan Therapy

Consider referring when your patient:

  • Hasn't felt like herself since a difficult pregnancy or birth
  • Becomes visibly distressed when discussing her birth or medical experience
  • Experiences significant anxiety surrounding medical appointments, pregnancy, or another delivery
  • Has intrusive memories, nightmares, panic, hypervigilance, avoidance, or strong physical reactions related to an experience
  • Feels guilt or shame because she believes she "should be over it"
  • Appears high-functioning professionally or personally but is struggling privately
  • Is interested in focused, trauma-informed treatment

You don’t need to determine whether she meets criteria for PTSD before referring. I can assess whether specialized trauma treatment is appropriate.

What Patients Can Expect

The experience is high touch and personal from the first contact. We begin by determining whether Harlan Therapy is the appropriate fit, and when it is, the work moves into specialized trauma-focused care shaped around the patient in front of me.

With appropriate written patient authorization, I can coordinate care with the referring provider.
