# Therapy Intensives

One long, protected stretch of time instead of 50 minutes a week for a year. For patients whose calendars, and whose patience for slow beginnings, are both finite.

Weekly therapy spends a good deal of its life arriving. You settle in, you get somewhere, and then the hour is over and the week takes it back. An intensive removes that.

## What It Includes

- 01

A 90 minute intake session, where we map what you're bringing and agree what the work is for

- 02

A separate four hour session, with breaks, held in person in Prince George or by telehealth

- 03

A 30 minute follow up 30 days later, to consolidate and plan what comes next

- 04

A workbook, tailored to you, used through the process

- 05

2,500 dollars in total, self pay

Fewer sessions. Longer. Deeper.

## Who It Suits

It tends to suit people who are functioning well on the outside and carrying one specific thing that hasn't moved. A birth. A loss. A period of your childhood you've described accurately many times and never actually felt.

It also suits patients whose work makes a weekly slot unrealistic. A physician on a rotating schedule, an attorney in trial, a founder who can't promise the same Tuesday twice.

## What the Day Is Actually Like

We begin slowly. Before anything difficult is opened, we establish what steadies you and how you'll know if we're going too fast. You keep the controls all day.

The middle of the day is the work itself, usually Brainspotting with somatic and parts work alongside it. There are breaks, and there's water and quiet and no expectation that you perform being fine. The workbook carries between the intake, the session, and the follow up, so the work has somewhere to live in your own words.

We close deliberately. Not on the raw edge of something, but with time to come back to the room, notice what's different, and make a plan for the days after, which are often quiet and tired.

Clear your evening, and if you can, keep the following day light. Most patients want less conversation than usual afterward, not more.

## A Birth Trauma Intensive

A birth is a single identifiable event with a beginning and an end. That is unusual in trauma work, and it is the reason a concentrated day suits it so well.

One birth. One long protected day. For a woman who does not need a year of talking to know exactly which afternoon she needs to go back to.

## Why Concentrated Work Fits a Birth

You already know where the trouble is. You could tell me the hour. Often you can tell me the minute the room changed. What you have not been able to do is stay near it long enough for anything to shift, because staying near it is frightening and fifty minutes is not much time to open something and close it safely again.

So the weekly hour goes like this. Twenty minutes settling in and catching up on the week. A careful approach toward the thing. A few real minutes near it. Then the clock, and you put it away and drive to collect your daughter. The next week you begin the approach again. Many women describe circling the same afternoon for a year without ever going into it.

An intensive removes the clock as an obstacle. There is enough runway to settle properly, enough room to go in when you are actually ready rather than when the session structure allows, and enough time afterwards to come all the way back out before the day ends.

One afternoon took it. One long day is a reasonable answer to that.

## What Happens Inside It

Mostly Brainspotting, with somatic work alongside it. Brainspotting is well suited to a birth because it does not require you to produce a coherent narrative, and most women cannot, at least not at first. The memory is usually held in fragments, out of order, and often more in the body than in words. Brainspotting works with where it is actually stored rather than with the version you have learned to recite for other people.

Somatic work sits underneath the whole day. A birth happens to a body. The bracing, the held breath, the flinch at a particular sound, the way your shoulders find your ears in a waiting room: none of that is going to be reasoned away, and it does not need to be. It needs somewhere to go and enough time to go there.

There are real breaks. You are not asked to perform being fine. You keep the controls all day, and we agree at the start how you will tell me to slow down.

## What the Intake Is Actually For

It is not paperwork. It is where we decide the target. Women often arrive assuming the whole birth is the subject, and by the end of the intake it has usually narrowed to something much more specific: a sentence somebody said, the moment you were left alone, the wait for a sound.

Narrowing it is most of what makes the day work. A vague brief produces a vague day.

## Afterwards

Plan for a quiet evening and a light following day. Most patients are tired and want less conversation than usual, not more. The follow up session 30 days later is where we look at what has actually changed and decide whether anything else is needed, which for some women is nothing and for others is a short run of ongoing sessions.

If you are in acute crisis, or having thoughts of harming yourself, a different level of care comes first, and I will say so plainly on the consultation call. Self pay, out of network, superbill on request.
