# A Therapy Intensive or Weekly Therapy?

Compare the commitment, the cost, and the kind of support you want between appointments.

## Start with the Care You Need

You may be drawn to a longer appointment because one part of your birth keeps returning. You may want a regular place to talk as motherhood, work, and family life continue to change. Or you may simply know you need help and be unsure how to begin.

I offer both weekly individual therapy and therapy intensives. The comparison below explains the practical differences in my practice. We decide on a format after discussing what you are experiencing and what support you need.

## Two Ways to Work Together

Consideration

Weekly Individual Therapy

Therapy Intensive

### Appointments

Weekly Individual Therapy Initial evaluation, then weekly 50-minute sessions

Therapy Intensive 90-minute intake, separate four-hour session, 30-minute follow-up 30 days later

### Fees

Weekly Individual Therapy $450 initial evaluation; $300 per weekly session

Therapy Intensive $2,500 package, including workbook and follow-up

### Continuity

Weekly Individual Therapy Regular appointments as the work unfolds

Therapy Intensive Defined period of focused work with a scheduled follow-up

### Planning

Weekly Individual Therapy Protect a consistent weekly appointment

Therapy Intensive Protect several appointment blocks and discuss support afterward

### Further Care

Weekly Individual Therapy Length of care is discussed as treatment develops

Therapy Intensive Additional or ongoing therapy may still be appropriate

### Location

Weekly Individual Therapy Prince George or telehealth while in Virginia

Therapy Intensive Prince George or telehealth while in Virginia

## What the Commitment Looks Like

Weekly therapy means protecting a 50-minute appointment each week. We can return to a concern over time and also attend to what happens between sessions. Many patients choose to work with me for one to two years initially. We discuss the length of care as the work develops.

An intensive means protecting time for a 90-minute intake, a separate four-hour session with breaks, and a 30-minute follow-up 30 days later. A tailored workbook is included. The longer session has a defined focus, which we discuss during the intake.

## Comparing Fees

For ongoing individual therapy, the initial evaluation is $450 and weekly 50-minute sessions are $300 each. The total cost depends on the length of care. For an intensive, the $2,500 package includes the intake, four-hour session, workbook, and follow-up.

Comparing the fees is useful for planning. Dividing one price by the other does not tell you whether the formats will meet the same needs. Both are self-pay and out of network. Ask your insurer about the specific services before relying on possible reimbursement.

## Four Questions to Bring to the Consultation

- 01
What do I want help with now? A specific birth memory, a recurring relationship pattern, and several overlapping concerns may lead to different conversations about a plan.
- 02
What support do I need between appointments? Think about the people and care you already have, and what feels missing.
- 03
What time can I protect? Consider privacy, childcare, work, and time after the appointment, as well as the appointment itself.
- 04
What would I want to review before deciding to continue or change course? Your goals help us keep the plan connected to your life.

## If You Already Have a Therapist

Tell me about your current care during the consultation. We can discuss why you are considering an intensive and how it might fit with the support you already receive. Any coordination with another clinician would be discussed with you first.

You do not need to stop ongoing therapy to ask questions about this format. The first step is understanding what you hope an additional piece of work would address.

## After an Intensive

The follow-up is a chance to discuss how you have been doing, what remains difficult, and whether further care makes sense. Some patients may continue with regular therapy. An intensive is not an agreement that you will need no more support afterward.

If regular contact is what you need from the outset, we should account for that when choosing the plan. Fitting care into your calendar matters, and so does having support in the weeks between appointments.

## Location and Next Steps

Both formats are available in person in Prince George and by telehealth while you are in Virginia. A private, uninterrupted setting is needed for online appointments.

You can request a free consultation before choosing a format. We can discuss the concern you want help with, the practical commitments, and whether my practice is the right place to begin.
