# Birth Trauma Therapy for Williamsburg

In a smaller community the practical obstacle to therapy is often not cost or scheduling. It is that you might see someone you know in the car park, and that is enough to stop a woman getting help for years.

## Less Anonymity Than You Would Like

Williamsburg is the kind of place where the woman at the desk went to school with your husband, where the person two rows back at the service also sits on the committee with you, and where somebody will mention, kindly and with no ill intent, that they saw your car outside a particular building.

None of that is hostile. It is what makes a small community good to live in. It is also, if you are considering therapy for something you have not told your own mother about, a genuine deterrent. I do not treat that concern as resistance or as avoidance. It is an accurate reading of how information moves in a town this size.

## What That Costs You

The cost is delay. Women here often wait until the thing is undeniable, which means arriving after two or three years of managing it privately. In that time the birth has stopped being an event and has quietly become a personality: you are simply someone who does not sleep well, who cannot delegate the baby, who gets sharp in the evenings, who avoids a particular road.

The other cost is performance. In a place where you are known, you keep the presentation up, at the school gate, at church, at work. That performance is exhausting on its own, on top of whatever you are actually carrying, and it is often the first thing that becomes lighter once the underlying thing is being addressed.

## Telehealth As Privacy, Not As a Compromise

Video removes the car park entirely. There is no building, no waiting room, no chance encounter, no one to explain yourself to. You take the session in your own house at an hour of your choosing, and no one in your community needs to know it happened.

Private pay reinforces that. Nothing is submitted to an insurer, so there is no diagnosis traveling through a claims system attached to your name. I can provide a superbill if you want to seek reimbursement yourself, and whether an insurer pays it is not something I can promise.

Some patients ask whether the work is genuinely as good on video. For the way I work, yes. Brainspotting, Internal Family Systems and somatic work depend on your attention and a room where you will not be interrupted, not on us sharing furniture.

## What You Actually Need at Your End

A door that closes, headphones, and fifty minutes. A parked car counts, and a fair number of my patients have done good work from one. If you would rather be in a room, my office in the Tri-Cities is a drive down the interstate and in person hours are available there.

I am licensed in Virginia only, so you need to be physically in Virginia when we meet.

## What We Would Work On

Usually the birth itself, and then whatever it disturbed. For a lot of women that second part is unexpected. Becoming a mother has a way of raising your own childhood, and things you were certain were long dealt with about your own mother arrive again while you are holding a baby at four in the morning.

That is not a sign that you failed to deal with it the first time. It is that you are meeting it from an entirely new position, and the new position asks different questions of it.

## Beginning

A free consultation call, which is itself private. Nobody is in a waiting room and there is no building to be seen entering.
