# Birth Trauma Therapy for Northern Virginia

Northern Virginia runs on a particular kind of woman: the one who negotiated her maternity leave the way she would negotiate a deal, took the shortest one she could stand, and went back with her calendar already full.

## The Corridor Between the Leave and the Rest of Your Life

The women I see from this part of the state work in law, in federal agencies, in consulting, in the contract world that orbits both. The job rewards a very specific skill, which is the ability to hold a great deal of pressure without visibly registering it. That skill does not switch off when the pressure moves from a deadline to a delivery room.

So what happens is this. The birth goes badly, or goes frighteningly, or goes in a direction nobody narrated to you while it was happening. Then leave ends, sometimes at eight weeks, sometimes sooner, and the whole event gets closed like a matter that has been resolved. Nobody at work asks. You would not want them to. You return sharp, you return capable, and privately you are replaying a stretch of two hours over and over while you sit in traffic.

The thing that makes this region distinct is not that women here are busier. It is that the professional identity is so strong that it can absorb almost anything and keep functioning. That looks like resilience from the outside. From the inside it is closer to a room you have locked and are now walking past several times a day.

## Why It Surfaces Later, and Not on Schedule

A lot of women in this corridor do not come to me at three months postpartum. They come at fourteen months, or at two years, or when they start thinking about a second baby and their body answers before they do. Trauma does not observe the leave calendar. It waits for a quiet stretch, and Northern Virginia does not hand out many of those, so it waits a long time.

When it does arrive it often does not arrive labeled. It arrives as a short fuse in the evenings, as an inability to let anyone else hold the baby, as a checking behavior at night that you would never describe out loud, as a flat refusal to go back to the place where it happened even for a routine appointment.

## How the Work Fits a Schedule Like Yours

I see women across this region by secure video. That is not a compromise for the sake of convenience. It removes the two commutes that would otherwise sit on either side of a fifty minute session, and in a week where you are already accounting for every hour, the commute is usually what kills the therapy rather than the therapy itself.

I work with Brainspotting, Internal Family Systems, and somatic approaches. All three translate to video without losing depth, because none of them depend on me being physically close to you. What they depend on is your attention and a room where you will not be interrupted, and that room can be your home office at seven in the morning.

I am licensed in Virginia only, so you need to be physically in Virginia during our sessions. For most people in this region that is simply a matter of taking the session at home rather than from an office over a state line.

## This Is the Regional Page

Northern Virginia is not one experience. The first baby in a one bedroom apartment with no family within a day's drive is not the same as the third baby in a house where everyone assumes you have it handled. The pages below go into each of those separately.

## What People in This Region Ask Before They Book

Whether it is too late. It is not. I regularly work with women whose birth was five or ten years ago, and old does not mean settled. It means it has had longer to organize your life around it.

Whether this will interfere with a clearance or a professional record. I am private pay only, so nothing is submitted to an insurer and no claim is generated in your name. I can give you a superbill if you want to pursue reimbursement, and I cannot promise an insurer will honor it.

Whether they have to commit to a year of weekly sessions. No. Some women here do weekly work for several months, and some do one intensive and a small number of follow ups. We decide that together on the consultation call, which is free.
