# Birth Trauma Therapy for McLean

In McLean the expectation of competence is loud. Households run well, standards are high, and asking for help can feel less like a reasonable act and more like an admission that something has slipped.

## When the Standard Is That You Handle It

The women I see from McLean are usually the person other people rely on. They organized the family, the move, the renovation, the schools. Some of them run teams. Some of them stepped back from a career that they were extremely good at, which is its own quiet complication, because the household then becomes the arena where competence is measured.

Into that comes a birth that did not go the way it was supposed to. And the first instinct is not to say so. The first instinct is to manage it, the way everything else gets managed. Get the sleep sorted. Get back to training. Get the house running. Do it well enough and fast enough that nobody has to know that you are frightened.

That instinct is not vanity. It is the operating system that has made a lot of things in your life work. It just does not work on this.

## Help Feels Like a Failure of Standards

I want to name the thing that actually keeps women in this position out of therapy for a year or more. It is not stigma in the general sense. It is the private conviction that needing this means you have failed at something you should have been able to do on your own.

So the bar for reaching out gets set impossibly high. You will call when it gets bad enough. Except you are the kind of person who copes, so it does not get bad enough, it just gets permanent. You end up highly functional and privately braced, for years, and everyone around you experiences you as fine.

There is a version of this that is about being seen. If you are known in your circle, in the school run, on the boards you sit on, then walking into a waiting room locally is not neutral. That is a real consideration and I do not treat it as avoidance.

## Discreet by Design

I work by secure video with McLean patients, private pay only. There is no insurance claim, which means no diagnosis submitted to a third party and no record traveling through a benefits system attached to your name. I can provide a superbill if you want to attempt reimbursement yourself, and I cannot guarantee an insurer will pay it.

Sessions happen from your own house, at an hour you choose. Nobody has to be told anything.

## What the Work Asks of You

Less performance than you expect. Brainspotting in particular does not require you to explain yourself well, which tends to be a relief for women who are extremely good at explaining themselves well and have used that skill to keep the real thing at arm's length for a long time.

Internal Family Systems is useful here for a different reason. It gives you a way to relate to the part of you that insists on holding the standard, rather than fighting it. That part built a great deal of your life. It does not need to be dismantled. It needs to stop being the only one on duty.

I am licensed in Virginia only and you need to be physically in Virginia when we meet.

## What Changes, Realistically

I do not make promises about outcomes and I would be suspicious of anyone who did. What I can describe is the direction of the work. We are trying to reduce the charge that a specific set of memories still carries, so that your body stops responding to a present day Tuesday as though it were that day.

Practically, women often notice the smaller things first. Sleeping through a normal noise. Letting someone else take the baby out. Driving past a building without gripping the wheel. Being able to say one true sentence about the birth to your husband without managing his reaction while you do it.

## Starting

A free consultation call comes first, and it is not a sales conversation. You can ask whatever you want about how I work, what happens with records, and what a session actually involves.
