FAQ

# Frequently Asked Questions

Plain answers to the questions I hear most, before you have to ask them.

If your question isn't answered here, the free consultation is the place to ask it directly.

### What Working Together Feels Like

Clients often describe our work as grounded, thoughtful, and supportive. Sessions are a space where you don't have to perform or explain yourself. I bring structure, warmth, and curiosity to the work, helping you slow things down, understand what's happening internally, and make changes that feel sustainable in real life.

### Do you offer workshops, groups, or professional consultation?

In addition to individual therapy, I periodically offer workshops, groups, and professional consultation focused on mental health, burnout, and nervous-system regulation. Availability varies throughout the year. Please reach out or join the mailing list for updates on upcoming offerings.

It's a short conversation, by phone or video, where you can describe what's going on and ask questions, and I can share how I work. There's no obligation on either side. It exists so we can both find out whether this is a good fit before committing to anything.

### Are You Taking New Patients

Yes. I am currently accepting new patients, in person in Prince George and by telehealth anywhere in Virginia. The free consultation is where we work out whether what you are carrying is something I am the right person for.

### Is Telehealth Available Across Virginia

Yes. I'm licensed in Virginia and see patients by telehealth anywhere in the state, in addition to in person sessions at my office in Prince George.

### How Long Is a Session

Individual therapy sessions are 50 minutes. Therapy intensives are structured differently, with a 90 minute intake, a separate four hour session, and a 30 minute follow up 30 days later.

### How Often Will We Meet

Weekly. Patients who choose to work with me understand that weekly sessions are necessary for reaching their desired outcomes, often choosing to work with me for one to two years initially. This is not short term work, and knowing that up front matters. Once the work is well established, we can look together at whether anything about that should change.

### How Do I Choose Between Weekly Sessions and an Intensive

Ongoing sessions suit a process that unfolds over time. An intensive suits a defined piece of work you want to move through with focus in a short window, without an open ended commitment. We can talk this through in the consultation.

### What Is a Superbill

A superbill is an itemized receipt of the services you received, which you can submit to your insurance company for possible out of network reimbursement. There's no guarantee of payment, since it depends on your specific plan. I provide one on request.

### What Is Your Cancellation Policy

I require 24 hours notice to cancel or reschedule a session without being charged.

### Do You Prescribe Medication

No. As a licensed professional counselor, I don't prescribe medication. If medication is something worth exploring, I can help you think about whether a referral to a prescriber makes sense.

### How Do I Know If I Am a Good Fit

Many of the women I work with are accomplished, capable, and used to coping, and are quietly exhausted underneath that competence. If that sounds familiar, and you're looking for depth rather than generic advice, we're likely a good fit. The consultation is where we find out for certain.

### What Should I Expect in a First Session

Your first full session is an intake. I ask about what's brought you in, relevant history, and what you're hoping is different. You don't need to have it fully organized. It's a conversation, not a form to fill out correctly. Fees are listed in full on Rates and Insurance.

### What Do You Not Treat

I'm not the right fit for active crisis situations requiring emergency or higher levels of care, court ordered treatment, or couples therapy. If any of these describe your situation, I'll help you find an appropriate referral rather than take you on as a mismatch.

### How Do You Handle Records and Privacy

Your records are kept confidential in accordance with Virginia law and standard professional ethics. Information is only shared with your written consent, except in the limited circumstances required by law, which I explain clearly before we begin.

### How Do I Get Started

Reach out to schedule a free consultation. From there, if it feels like a fit on both sides, we'll schedule your intake and go from there.
